About
Hi, I’m Kumar
Piping Desk is a practical blog about process piping for onshore and offshore oil & gas projects: codes and standards, layout, materials, stress and supports, fabrication and construction, and the differences between building a plant on land and a facility at sea.
[ADD 2–3 SENTENCES ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE: years in the industry, the kinds of projects you’ve worked on (refineries, FPSOs, platforms, modules), and your role.]
Why this site exists
Most piping knowledge is learned on the job, from senior engineers and from mistakes. Codes tell you what is required, but rarely why, and almost never how the answer changes between a refinery and an FPSO. This site tries to fill that gap with short, clear articles that you can read in a few minutes and use the next day.
What you’ll find here
- Articles by topic: seven topics from codes and standards to case studies. See the archive.
- Onshore and offshore tags: every article is marked so you can focus on your environment.
- Reference tools: a pipe schedule lookup, a flange rating tool and a B31.3 wall thickness calculator.
- A glossary of common piping terms and abbreviations. See the glossary.
A note on using this content
Everything here is educational. Always design to your project specification, the current edition of the applicable codes, and the judgement of a qualified engineer. See the disclaimer.
